■Our Mission:
Alongside the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), countries around the world have seen an increase in cases of discrimination against minorities of Asian descent among others. These instances of violent hate-crimes and hate speech that target people based on their place of origin have become a serious problem. For instance in the United States according to a survey conducted by the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council and Chinese for Affirmative Action, from March 19th to March 27th of this year, over 600 racist acts were reported.
Japan is no exception to this worldwide trend. There have been reports of letters filled with hate-speech addressed to those in Chinatown as well as cases of restaurants and other establishments refusing to serve people of Chinese descent and foreigners. In addition, some politicians have incited discrimination against foreigners in Japan.
We at the Anti Racism Information Center (ARIC) have launched this website in order for those who have experienced COVID-19 related acts of discrimination, as well as those who have observed such acts, to be able to report them. The information collected from this survey will be used for the purposes of research/investigation as well as providing future support relating to this issue.
In order for us to uncover the true reality of COVID-19 related discrimination in Japan, we kindly ask for your cooperation. If you have experienced or witnessed any acts of COVID-19 related discrimination, please report it using the following form.
Any personal information we collect through this survey will be handled with the utmost care and will not be shared with any third party. The information we collect will not be used for any other purpose aside from conducting research related to the state of discrimination in Japan. Data attained through this survey may potentially be shared publically. However in these cases, data will be shared without any personally identifiable information.
